One train may hide another or behind one of Bordeaux's greatest wines

     
 I know two winemakers who are two of the three pillars of one of Saint Emilion's finest wines, and therefore one of Bordeaux's finest. Two friends, two families, two men, two wines.
Sonia and Rémi DALMASSO, Clos Romanile is more of a wine man, with a degree from Bordeaux's most prestigious oenology faculty. Never one to dwell on things of little importance, he and his wife Sonia fight the uphill battle to remain authentic. Eco-conscious and ethical, they know what to do with what they've got, and do it to get the best. They dream of a modern wine, highly concentrated yet silky. It's only a matter of time before they get there. Everything for him has a purpose, nothing is done by chance. In the end, however, nature will have the last word.

 

Christophe LARDIERE, Clos Lardière is more of a vineyard man, meticulous and obsessed with the precision of his work. He's moved by the wild grasses that can grow in his vineyard, and considers himself a craftsman concerned with passing on his knowledge... Tenacious in his ideas and his resolutions, he doesn't give in and nothing can stop him. He confides in me with amusement that his vines are better kept than those of the great Château Valandraud, because all the work depends solely on him. 


Rémi and Christophe have contributed to the success of Ch Valandraud, from a garage wine from a few parcels, it has expanded and reached the level of 1er Grand Cru Classé de Saint Emilion in just 20 years of existence!
